RULES:

• Follow directions given by an adult the first time they are given
• Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
• WALK - when entering or leaving the building and at all times in the building.

ABSENCES:

• In the event your child is sick, please call 203-899-2900 to report their absence.  
• When your child returns to school from being absent, please send a note with him/her indicating the reason for absence and date he/she is returning to school.
• Please remember that vacations taken while school is in session are unexcused absences from school.

TARDINESS:

• If your child is late for school you must stop in the office and obtain an admittance form before your child may go to his/her classroom.

DISMISSAL:

• At dismissal time, your child will be delivered to either the bus line in the school gym, or to the drop/pick-up area adjacent to the school parking lot by their teacher.
• (Please DO NOT go directly to the classroom to pick up your child. This confuses the dismissal process and also makes it difficult for the teacher to account for students at dismissal time.)
• If your child is going home with someone other than the usual person, we must have a note!!! (The office will verify the note and call the child to the office from their classroom. Teachers will not dismiss students directly from the classroom.)

EARLY DISMISSAL:

• You must send a note with your child and sign your child out in the office

TRUANCY:

• The Board of Education believes that regular school attendance is essential to the academic success of students. Therefore, it is the policy of the Board of Education to monitor school attendance so as to identify students who are truant or habitually truant, and to enlist the cooperation of parents/guardians and, when necessary, the Juvenile Justice System, in order to address the problem when it arises.
• For the purpose of these procedures, "truant" means a child who has four (4) unexcused absences from school in any one month, or ten (10) unexcused absences from school in any school year. A "Habitual Truant" means a child who has four (4) unexcused absences from school in any mouth subsequent to the month in which he/she was truant or ten (10) or more unexcused absences from school in the balance of the school year subsequent to the time at which he/she was a truant. "Parent" means the parent, guardian or other person having legal responsibility of a child.
• When a student is identified as a truant or habitual truant, the Superintendent or his/her designee (i.e. Principal, Housemasters, Assistant Principal) will conduct a meeting with the parent, the student, (if appropriate) and with such school personnel where involvement is determined appropriate by the Superintendent or his/her designee. The meeting will occur no later than ten (10) school days after the child's fourth (4th) unexcused absence in a month or tenth (10th) unexcused absence in a school year and will be for the purpose of reviewing and evaluating the reasons for truancy.
• The parent of each child enrolled in the school district will be notified in writing at the beginning of each school year of their statutory obligation to insure that their child attends school. Parents of children enrolling during the school year will be similarly notified.

BUS PROCEDURES:

• The safety of your children is our prime concern. All students must remain in their seats while the bus is in motion. Please review the bus regulations that have been established by the Board of Education. By working together, we can assure a safe and pleasant ride.

HOMEWORK POLICY

The purpose of homework is to enrich and extend children's learning experiences. Positive parental attitude toward homework is the basic key to homework success—a child's achievement is enhanced when school and home work together as partners.

Parental assistance may include (but not limited to):

• Letting children know that you support the school and their efforts.
• Fostering a good attitude in children by:
  • Monitoring the completion of homework.
  • Helping children locate necessary research materials, whether at home, school, or the public library.
